I passed O level English Lit thanks to seeing Polanski's Macbeth which our English teacher had the foresight to take us to and buying Key Facts to Macbeth for 5/- with my pocket money . I never understood any Shakespeare on readings from beginning to end of a play from a book.
We went as a class to see a film of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. But I think that was a couple of years before the O Level. Our teacher was pretty good at readings and explaining in some depth, although he sometimes got carried away in a maze of explanation and lost us, which was not hard to do. At those times he'd cover his head with his gown in silent despair.
For millions this is their life, or what passes for it in these uncertain times. It was ever so, but the military industrial complex madness now covers the globe from pole to pole.
