Now we know. It's a break with tradition!

It's three cheers for Archie Harrison!

The bookies must've cleaned up.

When I heard the names a short time ago I immediately thought of Archie Andrews and Harrison Birtwistle.

Can't believe I used to listen to a ventriloquist on the radio!  I really enjoyed those shows.

  1. Is that lad in the striped blazer the Brexit Party leader?

I have heard of someone having a face for radio but never a wireless ("Put wireless on") ventriloquist puppet: "A gottle of gear".

    1. Hi Dave, I remember waiting patiently cross legged on a mat on the lino for the valves in the wireless to warm up and glow and Listen With Mother to come on. When the lady said: Are you sitting comfortably? I'd say: Yes. Then she'd say: Then I'll begin. And on she'd go with her story.
Interesting observation you make. There is a passing resemblance to Nigel I think.

  2. They use to call radio: the theatre of the mind. I remember Watch With Mother on the electric fish tank or television.

Oliver Postgate is another one of my heroes too. Remember Ivor the engine and the Clangers?

    1. I don't remember Oliver Postgate or Ivor the Engine. What I do remember off the goggle box is Bill and Ben the Flower Pot Men (and Little Weed), and Muffin the Mule. You could even see the strings I think.

  3. The Clangers were more nineteen seventies programmes. They updated The Flower Pot Men recently. See they still use terracotta plant pots? Great tv nostalgia Gwil.
