I was privileged to be able to be there and witness this amazing performance.
It was like a Roger Bannister moment.
42.2 kms in under 2 hours. For years they said it was impossible.
Eliud Kipchoge is the name to remember.
"A running world is a peaceful world and a happy world" he said.
The time: 1 hour 59 minutes 40 seconds
The place: Vienna, Austria
I watched it from the comfort of my armchair - wondered if you were there.
ReplyDeleteWell, I was. Many people seemed to have watched it on TV in the UK judging from emails etc. received. People here had to watch it on YouTube or go the venue and see it live. There were also 3 or 4 big screens in viewing areas along the course.
DeleteHow very exciting. Came over from Weavers blog.
ReplyDeleteparsnip
Indeed it was. Wonderful to witness history being made.
DeleteIt must have been awesome to see history made in front of your eyes Gwil.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely was, Dave. I managed to get a close view of him 4 times. A real cool guy in every sense.
DeleteGreat day of huge significance.
ReplyDeleteGreat, yes. And the significance will hopefully gather momentum.
Delete__ Such a physical/mental goal that was overcome; Eliud is now and should be, the title of that new goal!
ReplyDelete__ 159, now that 20 the new goal... is to be chipped away and overcome! It will require many more years!
Roger!
DeleteIt's getting contagious. In Chicago Kenya's Brigid Kosgei of Kenya has knocked more than a minute off Paula Ratcliffe's world record marathon time which has stood for 16 years.
ReplyDeleteYes. I saw. And you won a race too!
DeleteWe do what we can. Thanks!
DeleteAnd Mo Farrah had his worst race ever. A strange weekend for sure.
DeleteAnd Paula Ratcliffe's longstanding marathon record was broken by 80 seconds!
DeleteWhat a weekend.
Oh, I already said that.
