those evenings outside
in the glo worms' green dancing
- why are they gone?
The number of glo worms in the garden has diminished over the years. Once they were abundant. Dozens blinking their neon green lights on and off in the evening. Now they are a rare sight. There were years when we didn't see any at all. Last year we saw three. Hopefully this year they will return once more in abundance. They are an uplifting sight. Good for the soul.
We have them here in Norfolk. They are rather nondescript when not glowing, which is most of the time. In fact I have to admit to never seeing one glow. Perhaps I go to bed too early.
ReplyDeleteThe best place best I know is a lakeside path near the house of a Dr. von Frisch the man who decoded the dance of the bees. We still have bees who visit our apricot tree. But where the glo worms 🐛 have gone is a mystery.
DeleteLove this - now I want to see a glow worm.
ReplyDeleteA still summer evening after sunset. A lakeside path or a garden path. The males are competing to attract the females.
DeleteWorms are a rare sight too Gwil. Never seen a glow worm.
ReplyDeleteWalking home from the pub. Maybe you mistook them for the little people.
DeleteI've never seen a glow worm in Scotland, not sure we get them here.
