At 'Defend Democracy Press' there's a quote from Odysseas Elytis (Nobel Prize Winner for Literature 1979):
"It's barbarism. I see it coming masqueraded under lawless alliances and predetermined enslavements. It may not be about Hitler's furnaces, but about the methodical and quasi-scientific subjugation of man. His absolute humiliation. His disgrace."
'Beware of Greeks bearing gifts' - does this fit in with the poem anywhere? I don't know how I know the quotation but my father was always fond of saying it in appropriate situations.
ReplyDeleteWow! You were quick. I hadn't finished. Maybe the quote from 'Defend Democracy Press' was not there when you commented.
DeleteI forgot to say that your father's quote refers to the Trojan Horse.
DeleteI clicked the wrong thing and lost the video. But you can easily find his poem on YouTube.
ReplyDeleteIt's called 'They Came' (Axion Esti).

Magyar: Your "question that which is under the paint." I like that. The paint these days is an oil (with an attractive gloss). Not an aquarelle. .
ReplyDeleteThe people on the pictured horse have no foes - they are dealing openly - selling us their bread and cakes.
There is a green elephant statue and other endangered species sculptures in Clonakilty. They are there to show people they are losing their homes. I like the Trojan horse.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave. Unfortunately I couldn't find them. I kept hitting holiday adverts.
DeleteJust put jungle city Clonakilty in your search Gwil.
ReplyDeleteThey are auctioning them on eBay. Some of the animals, such as the colorful toucan, have been sold. There's still a chance to bid for a green elephant ;-)
DeletePhotos of the animals were taken in Edinburgh in 2011.
Congratulations Gwil on your newborn grandchild!
ReplyDeleteFelicitazioni!
Greetings Maria x
Grazie, Maria! Mother and baby doing well. :-)
