Europhobia
The two biggest ducks
Swim out of the reeds
They'll choose the new leader
The German duck is a born leader and it's her right to say who will be in charge of the pond.
The French duck has a vision. Not many are sure what it is though.
But there are more than two or three ducks in this misty pond, there are 27 or 28 of you, you say.
Quack, quack, the big ducks answer. Almost in unison. And smile their best duck smiles.
The little ducks sigh and say crumbs. Or do they?
We shall see.
And the winner is Germany's Queen Ursula!
The other ducks will doubtless rubber stamp it.
In the end it's probably a good choice.
France's Queen Christine gets the EZB - the keys to the bank.
The Paris-Berlin axis. One way or another things will go on as they must.
That's pond life.
I suspect Juncker will get great satisfaction if he is given an extension to the 31st October, our deadline for Brexit and remains as a thorn in our side. It seems likely this could happen.
ReplyDeleteOnly time will tell. Next meeting is on 9th July but meanwhile there will be the usual unseen moves behind the scenes.
DeleteJCJ has previously suggested that Frau Merkel herself would be the best choice for his job. JCJ himself was 'elected' unopposed and he was the only candidate in the secret ballot.
DeleteThat 9 th July should read 30 th. June.
DeleteNot all that different from how it is here at present then Gwil?
ReplyDeleteI see the constabulary were call to one prime minister candidate's chez nous.
DeleteAt EU Observer: Denmark calls for "new names" in bid to "open the game".
DeleteThe selectors are meeting this evening 30th June behind closed doors. Perhaps the name of the new president of the EU Comission will be known before too long? Timmermans (Holland) is the name on many lips.
DeleteThe Merke-Macron centre left Mr Timmermans failed to gain it last night. Will it come down to last minute panic choice on July 15th? If this is democracy at work I'm a Dutchman.
DeleteDutch socialist Timmermans is the so-called Osaka choice. This refers to the G20 summit in Japan. That's where his job card was marked by M&M. Ain't that sweet?
DeleteThey've adjourned until Tuesday. Merkel says they'll all be agreed when they've had some sleep. Or words to that effect. As a famous British PM might have said: You've never had it (up you) so good.
