Riddle

Question: When is a ship not a ship?

Answer: When it's mentioned in a BBC News headline.

The headline said: New Immigrant Ship Docks Despite Ban

The BBC's  'news' photograph shows Alex, an overcrowded yacht, recently docked in a port in Italy.

No sign anywhere of a ship.

The BBC's own report refers to the 'ship' as a boat.

'Fake News Headline'  for preprogrammed people with short attention span I think we can safely say.

  1. Very observant Gwil - I read the (shameful) report in The Guardian but failed to notice on the News bulletin.

    1. Who is really behind this people smuggling racket? Maybe we don't have them in chains in the hold anymore. We only need to encourage them to set to sea at great financial cost to themselves, often up to their necks in debt to criminals, into the waves in leaky overcrowded owl and pussy cat boats and aim for the 'rescue' scenario waiting offshore who will take them NOT to the nearest safe port but to complete their journey illegally in a place that doesn't want them. Cui Bono?

  2. One wonders if there was more mileage in the word "yacht", which I read. Of course, I read of the deplorable overcrowding. Nevertheless, not a ship.

    1. Europe's willing masters have plenty of big ships. Real big ones. They could carry 6, 8, 10 thousand refugees no problem. Instead they prefer to criticize Italy non-stop. On the morning news again today. Herr Seehofer doing it. Italy has borne the brunt of this scandal for years. Monsieur Macron recently criticized Italy but refused to take any from Lampedusa when asked by the Italians. EU's willing masters like to talk big but do little or nothing to allieviate the situation.

  4. I have talked about it so much I am giving up, and as for talking about it on blogs, it is a total waste of time; everybody is in denial about the EU and Macron and Merckel and continue to believe what they want to believe, and most of that is what comes out of the BBC. The way the EU treats Italy, it's just out of sight out of mind to Germany and France.

    1. Agree 100%. If I was an Italian I'd be fuming at the overbearing attitude of Europe's willing masters. Steam would come out of my ears.

    2. "My aim is a United States of Europe" (Ursula Von der Leyen ex-German defence minister and EU Commission's choice to replace J-C Juncker and in favour of creating a EU Army.

The 'battle lines' couldn't be more clearly drawn. We have been warned.

  5. I am Italian, and I can assure you that I don't agree what is written here. I belong to the part of Italians who hate Matteo Salvini, we are really ashamed of such a racist in the Italian government. There is no immigrant crisis here, it is propaganda from Salvini. Sadly there are a lot of ignorant persons who believe everything he says.
He is the most dangerous man in Italy.
In stead of cooperating with other European countries, he only argues and leaves summits.
Hopefully he won't last much longer.

    1. Thanks Nora. It's good to get an opinion from Italy. I have a friend in Firenze and he is not interested in politics but he says: Italy has little or no say in EU decisions. This was when the European Army idea was being floated by France and Germany. By the way, I live in Austria - supposed to be neutral.

    2. Merkel claims Salvini helped into power by money from Putin. But of course we've come to expect this from the two M's. Macron famously also played the old Russia bogeyman card against his opponent. It was later proved to be a case of electoral misinformation.
