EU News Numbers Game

Opening words:  Sad news. The USA overtakes Italy!  This is terrible. The worst for a country since the outbreak of the pandemic! (Euronews).

Next up wonderful words about how it's going to be in the EU after the pandemic from the German president no less.

Yes, they're already setting the agenda.

Euronews, the EU news channel which claims to have the most viewers in Europe, never compares like with like.

The EU plague news is invariably slanted.

Blatant anti-America.

Propaganda.

Devious.

The plain and true fact is that the European Union has by far the highest death totals in the world. Far higher than the USA.

In just three EU countries (Italy, Spain, France) with populations totalling 174,000,000 the number of deaths is rapidly approaching 60,000.

In fact if we include little Belgium in our list of EU pandemic deaths the total of just FOUR  EU states is over 3 times higher than that of the whole of the USA.

And let's not forget the USA population is 331,000,000.

It's time for the EU's major news outlet to report the news as it really is and not as they wish it to be.

  1. France claims high plateau as USA deaths pass Italy. That one is the Euronews app headline this morning. The true story is overlooked. France‘s so high plateau is five worse than the US in population percentage terms. The US would need to record 100,000 deaths to be equal with France. Semantics or propaganda? You decide.

  2. Population of Italy is 60 million. Population of USA is 330 million. I would be surprised if they didn't overtake other countries. Population of China 1.5 billion. Figures from China not known except that something strange is going on.

    1. Thanks Rachel.

The Euronews finger of schadenfreude is pointing the wrong way.

  3. As with all news- we only know the version they choose to tell us. I sometimes wish I didn't lisen to the News but somehow I am programmed to do just that.

    1. I was reared in the news listening generation. My dad used to listen to it every hour. Probably dates from his time in the RAF in the war. Mum got fed up of it.

  4. Whenever you point at anyone, remember two or three fingers are pointing back at you.
America has more distance between towns than we have, so should be easier to contain.I think.
    Its all bad .

    1. Every cloud has a silver lining. The European pointer in chief is already working on his post pandemic speech according to sources in Paris.

  5. All very sensible comments Gwil. It's good to see that not everybody believes the news. Like all wars. It's the Victor's who write the history books. Good post.

    1. As it stands now:
4 European countries: Spain, Italy, UK, France. 63,290 deaths
The whole of the USA: 22,204
The main stream media in Europe seem to spend a disproportionate amount of time telling us how bad things are the USA. News channel in Austria now showing camera crews running round New York hospitals looking for dramatic moments. All quiet on the western front? Thanks Dave.

  6. Thank you for making clear that the death rate for CV-19 US is not as bad as it is in EU. Our news stations (US) keep reporting the same thing - they do not put it in terms of percent of the population, just that "we have surpassed Italy". Good Grief!

    1. Thanks Jean Ellen. The fact is that 70% of the world’s 120,000 coronavirus deaths are as it stands today in Europe. This is a dreadful statistic.

Anyone listening to the main stream media news would think most deaths were in the USA. 🥺

    2. By the way I can’t stand to watch cnn for more than 5 minutes. I am always forced to switch channels. It makes me cringe. It’s like having a basket case in my living room corner.
