Musical Interlude: Mischa Maisky - Haydn Cello Concerto No.1 in C Major

Mischa Maisky performs one of my favourite pieces - Haydn's Cello Concerto No. 1 in C Major.

Here is the final movement.

There is no more World Cup football until the first quarter-finals on Friday.

Music is the best antidote I know for WCWS* and 'football fatigue'.

  1. In my piano-playing days I loved playing Haydn. Now my son is beginning to discover and really enjoy his music.

    1. In Eisenstadt about 60 km east of here one can visit Haydn's house, which is now a museum, and also the Esterhazy Palace where there's concert room where Haydn's works were performed for the royal family and their guests. When Haydn was buried somebody stole his head. But it turned up many years later and was reunited with his body in a church in Eisenstadt with much pomp and ceremony and large crowds lining the route.

  2. I have got severe WCWS today. Is there a cure? What will we do when it's all over?

    1. I don't know. It'll be like the morning after the night before. But we can enjoy it while it lasts. It's been a great party so far!
